Brunswick County rescinds Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert
11/22/2021 9:12:07 AM
Brunswick County Public Utilities is rescinding its Stage 1 Water Conservation Alert effective Nov. 20, 2021. This notice affects all customers of public water systems anywhere in Brunswick County. The conservation alert was originally issued Nov. 5, 2021, as a precaution following the identification of a leak in a Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority (LCFWSA) raw water transmission main. The County’s system continues to operate normally and no public action is required.
Over the past two weeks, Brunswick County’s contractor has taken steps to stabilize the leak and install a bypass around the leak location. The bypass was successfully installed this Saturday, increasing the flow of raw water to downstream water treatment plants servicing Pender and New Hanover counties.
Brunswick County staff and its contractor will work to repair the affected section of the line to restore it to full capacity in the near future. No additional impacts are expected to water customers at this time.
Public Utilities regularly monitors its system and will notify residents in the event another water conservation alert is necessary. More tips on how to proactively conserve water are at brunswickcountync.gov/water-conservation.
Residents who have questions should contact their water service provider directly or Brunswick County Public Utilities at 910.253.2657 or [email protected].
